Chapter - 2: Drama King

“Not all runaways are chasing freedom — some are just avoiding rishtas.”

“Mumma! Badi Maa! Bhai nahi hai apne room mein!”

Krishiv, the youngest in the Malhotra family, came out of his brother’s room, eyes wide, voice loud.

“What do you mean by ‘nahi hai apne room mein’?”

His mother, Aashi Malhotra, the younger daughter-in-law of the house, asked with narrowed eyes.

“Nahi hai as in... nahi hai. He is not in his room,” Krishiv replied innocently, repeating himself.

“Maine translate karne ko nahi bola tha,” Aashi snapped.

“Sorry,” he muttered, shrinking a little.

“Room mein nahi hai toh gaya kahah ye ladka?”

Pankti Malhotra, the eldest daughter-in-law, looked toward Aashi, concern rising.

“Kya ho gaya, Pankti?”

Anuj Malhotra, Pankti’s husband and father of the infamous Mayur, approached with Ashish, Aashi’s husband and Krishiv’s father.

“Aapka beta room mein nahi hai,” Pankti replied calmly.

“Haan toh kya ho gaya? Hoga kahin yahin,” Anuj said, not yet understanding the weight of the situation.

“Bade Papa, bhai ghar pe nahi hai,” Krishiv insisted.

“Tujhe kaise pata?” Ashish asked, now curious.

“Bhai ye chit chhod ke gaye hain. Room mein mili,” he said, waving a small folded note.

“Dikhao toh,” Anuj said, taking the note and unfolding it.

He began to read aloud after opening up the letter:

“Wait... did he write lakdi?” Pankti raised a suspicious brow.

“Ladki likhna chahta hoga, par lakdi likh diya hoga,” Ashish guessed.

“Nahi Dad, bhai lakdi hi bol rahe hain,” Krishiv smirked.

“Tujhe kaise pata?” Aashi asked.

“Bhai hai mere. Aapse zyada time spend kiya hai unke saath,” he said with pride.

“Yeh sab chhodo. Ab kya karna hai? Khurana ji ko toh inform karna padega na,” Pankti said, now clearly worried. “Kahin unhone preparations shuru kar di ho toh?”

“Hmm. Sahi keh rahi ho,” Anuj nodded, already pulling out his phone.

“Par unko bolenge kya? Kyun nahi jaa rahe hum unke ghar?” Ashish asked, genuinely curious.

“Ab main yeh thodi bol sakta hoon ki hamara Mahaan Mayur temporary bhaag gaya hai just because uske college function ke din humne ladki dekhne ka plan bana diya tha!”

Anuj huffed.

“Can you please stop with this sarcasm?” Pankti rolled her eyes, crossing her arms.

“No, I’m not going to stop. Har baar ka hai tumhare laal ka,” he replied, clearly done with the day.

“Bol toh aise rahe ho jaise maine akeli ne paida kiya ho!” Pankti snapped back.

“Usmein bhi main hi tha. Main bhool gaya kya?”

Anuj smirked.

“Bas bas, aap dono ka romantic roast baad mein kar lena,” Aashi interrupted, pinching her nose.

“Filhaal sochna yeh hai ki Khurana ji ko kya bolna hai.”

Anuj took a deep breath, trying to calm the sudden swirl of emotions before dialing the number.

“Hello, namaste Khurana sahab,” he began, his tone polite but slightly uneasy.

He paused for a moment, then continued with careful words. “Actually... humne ye batane ke liye call kiya tha ki hum logon ka aaj aane ka plan cancel ho gaya hai.”

Some murmurs could be heard from the other end.

“Haan ji. Maafi chaahte hain, aise achanak se mana karna pada,” he added politely.

“Zaroor, zaroor. Kisi aur din plan kar lete hain dono bachchon ke liye. Ji. Namaste.”

He hung up and turned to face the entire family now watching him.

“Ho gaya. Tension mat lo.”

Then he added with a dramatic sigh,

“Par ek baat kehna padega...”

“Yeh Mayur bhi na... poora drama king hai.”

“Bhai ne bhaagna bhi style se dramatic mein likha hai,” Krishiv chuckled, waving the note like a treasure.

Meanwhile, at the Khurana residence...

Peace had returned.

“Must be something urgent,” said Mr. Pratap Khurana, placing his phone on the table.

“The Malhotras wouldn’t cancel without a reason.”

Everyone resumed their relaxed conversations. All calm.

The youngest daughter scrolled on her phone without a care in the world.

No one in the room knew...

That the Malhotras’ eldest son — yes, the one they were proudly planning to introduce—had also vanished.

Not for any noble cause.

Not because of some family emergency.

But for the exact same reason as Mayra Khurana—

a college function.

Two families.

Two children.

One massive coincidence.

And not a single soul in either house had the slightest clue…

Yet.
